In 1863, entrepreneur Rudolph Sack founded a factory with five employees at Leipzig-Plagwitz on the recommendation of the local lawyer and entrepreneur Karl Heine. By purchasing land and new buildings, the factory premises grew constantly. In 1894, the factory expanded on the property of Karl-Heine-Straße 103/105, where the casting house was built – today’s Da Capo.

In 1913, the 50th year of its existence, the factory had 2,000 workers and an area of 75,000 m² in total. The “Rud. Sack KG” was one of the leading manufacturers of ploughs and agricultural machinery in Germany until 1945. After World War II, the factory was shut down. In 1946, the state of Saxony held it in trust. In September 1947, more than 1,000 employees worked here again. From 1948 until the end of the GDR, the nationally owned enterprise “Leipziger Bodenbearbeitungsgeräte” (BBG) produced agricultural machinery.

In the early 1990s, Munich-based contractor Manfred Rübesam bought 15 hectares of former industrial area at Plagwitz, including the former BBG plant. Despite envisioning high-rise buildings, Rübesam started a more down-to-earth project in Plagwitz at the end of the year 2000, by bringing his classic car collection to the newly renovated BBG hall.
From the year 2002 on, the Hotel Michaelis GmbH became tenant and operator of the Da Capo, and we have been able to make it a popular and successful event location ever since, despite Rübesam’s bankruptcy and the property having to be sold.
In connection with Mr Rübesam’s bankruptcy, all his vintage cars were sold in 2007.
Thanks to the help of our partner Stefan Werner at Sunset Limousines, we managed to present a spectacular “new” collection of vintage cars which is just as worth while seeing.  
The vintage cars which are currently on display are on loan from private owners and enthusiasts.
