Michaelis at the Grassi

Michaelis - Café & Bistro and Events at the Grassi Museum Leipzig

The Grassi is the first building which was designed in Germany to meet the demands of a museum. Built between 1925 and 1929, it sets itself apart with its modest yet impressive use of Art deco elements. It is now the home of three large museums of national importance: the Museum for Applied Art, the Museum of Musical Instruments, and the Leipzig Museum of Ethnology. The name “Grassi Museum” was taken from Franz Dominic Grassi, a Leipzig merchant of Italian descent who, in 1880, left a large part of his fortune to the city of Leipzig for cultural projects.

Michaelis operates the Museum-Café & Bistro where guests can stop for a break during their museum visit. The sophisticated and exclusive ambiance of the Grassi’s rooms, such as the Pfeilerhalle, also provides the setting for your stylishly catered events.
